About Us
Nightlight Christian Adoptions
In 1959 a group of churches affiliated with the National Association of Evangelicals founded the Evangelical Welfare Agency in Whittier, California. The agency sought to address the needs of women facing unplanned pregnancy. The legalization of abortion caused a sharp decline in the number of infant adoptions in 1973, so the agency added a focus on international adoption at the end of the Vietnam and Cambodian wars. We were one of the first agencies to offer adoptions from Russia and we changed our name to Nightlight, which connotes a warm, safe home for children. We conceived of the idea of “orphan host programs” where children came from Russia to the US to meet potential adoptive families, and so far over 500 children have been adopted from hosting through Nightlight.
In 1997 we pioneered the concept of Snowflakes® Embryo adoption. Since then, we have had over 1000 babies born through Snowflakes.
In 2014 we launched AdoptionBridge.org, a site that unifies the three members of the adoption triad with crowdfunding, dear birthmother profiles, and photo-listed waiting children.
Our Commitments
Our agency prizes honesty, empathy and integrity. Many of us are adoptive parents ourselves. We sincerely want to help children find forever families, help expectant parents make choices that feel right to them, and help adoptive parents navigate adoption successfully.
